Are you a DIAA financial member and, passionate about the dairy industry, and looking for a leadership role within a professional association? The Dairy Industry Association of Australia (DIAA) is seeking dedicated and experienced* Non-Executive Directors to join our national board from the states of Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction and governance of the DIAA, and to support our mission of promoting excellence in the dairy industry.

About the DIAA

The DIAA is a professional association that supports individuals working in dairy product manufacturing and allied trades. Our members are committed to the highest standards of quality and innovation in the dairy sector, and we provide a platform for professional development, networking, and advocacy.

The Role

As a Non-Executive Director, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the DIAA. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Attending Board Meetings: Participate in approximately five board meetings per year and serve on at least one board committee.
  • Strategic Oversight: Contribute to the development and approval of the DIAA’s strategic plan and monitor its implementation.
  • Financial and Risk Management: Provide direction on financial matters, review financial reports, and ensure appropriate risk management strategies are in place.
  • Governance and Compliance: Ensure the DIAA adheres to legal and regulatory requirements and upholds the highest standards of corporate governance.
  • Cultural Leadership: Promote and monitor the tone of the organisation’s culture, acting as a custodian of our values and code of conduct.

Qualifications and Skills

We are looking for candidates (members) who bring a wealth of experience and expertise to our board and are DIAA Financial Members. Key qualifications and skills may include the following; however, ultimately, the ability to see the big picture and articulate it clearly is key :

  • Knowledge of Director Responsibilities: An understanding of the legal, ethical, fiduciary, and financial responsibilities of a director.
  • Strategic Expertise: Ability to contribute to strategic decision-making and review the association’s strategy through constructive questioning and suggestions.
  • Financial Acumen: Competence in reading and comprehending financial statements and reports and a basic understanding of corporate finance.
  • Legal and Risk Management: Experience in overseeing compliance with laws and managing organisational risks.
  • People Management: Experience in managing people, driving change, and understanding current management thinking on employment and stakeholder communication.
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience in the dairy industry or similar sectors.

  • Engagement: A genuine interest in the DIAA and its mission and an active contributor to the board’s work.

Ideal Educational Requirements

The following represents our preferred requirements; however, first-time directors should also apply.

  • Tertiary Education: A relevant tertiary qualification is desirable.
  • Company Directors Course: Ideally, completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Company Directors Course.
  • Related Experience: Other relevant education or experience in governance, finance, or the dairy industry.
